FAQ

How do I find the transfer service once I land in Mexico?
A uniformed representative from the STP Caribe Company will be waiting outside the terminal after you clear customs. Look for the person holding a sign with our logo- Turquoise Reef Group. This person will be OUTSIDE the airport.

Do I need a passport to travel to Mexico?
Yes, a passport is required enter back into the United States by air from Mexico.

What forms of payment do you accept?

We accept Visa, MasterCard, Discover, American Express, checks, wire transfer and money orders.

How far away is 5th Ave from my hotel in Playa del Carmen?
From Shangri La the shops are about a 10 minute walk and Petit Lafitte is approximately 4 ½ miles.

Can I drink the water at the hotels in Playa?
All the water in the restaurants is purified but do not drink the water out of the room faucet.  Most rooms will provide bottled water.

How much should I expect to pay for a meal in Playa?
You can get excellent authentic Mexican meals for 30 pesos. That's off the main drag, of course. On 5th Avenue expect to pay around 40-60 pesos for breakfast, 40-100 for an appetizer, 60-250 for a main course and 30-100 for a dessert. Beers are 15-35 pesos and a mixed drink is 35-60 pesos. A bottle of wine in a restaurant goes for 180 or more.

What is the exchange rate?
The exchange rate is running around $1.00 to 10 pesos.

What is the current status of Shangri La Caribe? 

Currently they are not accepting reservations past April 16, 2009 

Are there any travel warnings for Mexico?

Currently, there are no travel warnings for Mexico, but please feel free to go to Country Specific Information for further research.

Can I reserve a specific room?

No. You can reserve a room type but not a specific room number.  Due to various circumstances, a particular room number may or may not be available on the day you check in.

What happens if I do not like the accommodations?

Once you are in Mexico the resort is responsible for your service.  If you have any problems or resaon to ask for a refund, the resort management is the authority.  Turquoise Reef is able to process requests for changes and cancellations prior to but not on or after the day of arrival within Mexico.

What electricity is used?

It is normally 110V AC electricity.  No adapters are needed.

When is the rainy season?

The rainy season is typically known as june through November.  But, experience shows that September and October has the most average precipation. 

What happens if there is a hurrucane?

Hurricanes are possilble in the yucutan.  If flights are cancelled and/or the Cancun airport is closed due to a named tropical storm or hurricane, reservations will be refunded.

Whale Shark Season at Holbox Island is Here

Whale Sharks typically migrate by Holbox Island from early July to late August.

New passport rules as of Jan 23 2007! You must have a passport!

You will have to have a valid US Passport to return to the United States from Mexico starting Jan 23 2007!

The Departments of State and Homeland Security has announced that the requirement for citizens of the United States, Canada, Mexico, and Bermuda to present a passport to enter the United States when arriving by air from any part of the Western Hemisphere will begin on January 23, 2007.

 

it is your responsibility to verify that your passport is current.  This can be a lengthy process so please plan accordingly.

Wedding Cancellation Policies

1) A $500.00 non-refundable wedding deposit must be paid to reserve the wedding date prior to reserving any rooms under the group.

2) For wedding guest’s room reservations, we require either a 50% or 3 night non-refundable deposit at the time of booking. The remaining balance for the reservation is due 30 days prior to the guest’s arrival. Any cancellations made outside of 7 days of the arrival date will forfeit the initial deposit, and within 7 days of the arrival date, reservations are completely non-changeable and non-refundable.

3) Because of the strict cancellation policy for wedding reservations, we highly recommend that you purchase outside travel insurance. A few options for cancellation coverage are Travel Guard at 1-(800)-826-4919, or you can visit www.insuremytrip.com.

Christmas Holiday Policies

Christmas Holiday policies may vary from resort to resort based on the individual resort's designated holiday dates. Please call us to confirm the specific dates and applicable policy for your chosen resort.

Standard Christmas Holiday Policy: 

  • 7 night min stay anytime during each property’s designated Christmas and New Year’s Holiday dates.
  • Deposit of 3 nights is due within 3 days of booking.
  • Deposit is non-refundable.
  • No cancellation waivers are offered. Outside trip cancellation insurance can be purchased and is recommended.  We recommend www.TravelGuard.com or www.InsureMyTrip.com
  • Final balance is due 30 days prior to the arrival date.
  • Final balance is also non-refundable.
  • There is a $100.00 change fee for any changes (decreases) to the reservation. Adds or upgrades are not charged a change fee.
  • No changes are allowed within 30 days (inclusive) of the travel arrival date.

Change Policy for Reservations

Changes made to an existing reservation up to 7 days prior to arrival date (inclusive) will incur a $25 change fee.

Changes are defined as a decrease in the original reservation components, including total nights stay, number of guests on itinerary or room catagory downgrades.

Room catagory upgrades, additional guests added or extensions to the original travel dates are not assesed a change fee.

Reservations are not changeable within 7 days (inclusive) of your arrival date.
