From Cancun International Airport, take Highway 307 South to Tulum (approximately 1.5 hours south of the airport). When you get to Tulum, at the second stop light (4 way stop light), turn left on Boca Paila road, commonly referred to as "The Beach Road". You will come to a "T" in the road...make a right. "A Great Place to Relax and Enjoy the Beauty of Tulum"
I have been vacationing in Tulum for the last 5 years. After staying in a few other hotels, I stayed at Las Ranitas in 2006 on recommendation of a friend of mine and now it is my favorite hotel in Tulum. I've been several times since 2006 and I have seen the changes that have taken place within the hotel over the years. I have to say this last trip was the most relaxing stay we have had at Las Ranitas.
The new management are extremely friendly and outgoing, ready to help with anything needed or desired, but also giving us the space to be alone and enjoy our vacation...
...One major draw for me to Las Ranitas is the beach. It is one of the best ones in Tulum. It is a long stretch of beach with only residences on either side of the hotel, so you feel like you have the whole beach to yourself. It is quiet and easy to swim for little children too. They have many palapas to use for shade if you want a break from the sun.
The rooms are cleaned immaculately everyday. The property has beautiful gardens along the walkways. Secure parking. Two pools, which I have never used because the ocean is right in front of the rooms! And if you are feeling athletic, they have a fun paddle ball court, as well.
I think if you are staying anywhere in Tulum, you have to have an open mind about the place. It is the beach, it is tropical, it is eco-friendly, so you might have mosquitoes, or rain during the day, or slow service, or hard beds. But take a look outside and swim in the beautiful water and realize that you are in a small peace of paradise and on vacation!
Other hotels might be more eco-chic, with sand on the floor and such, but I do prefer Las Ranitas and suggest staying there if it is in your budget.
